HELP me to learn!

Ok I am at lower level than a newbie so I am asking this. I don't know where to put this so I place it here.

1) We can find readymade cracks and patches on the net but can we learn from them? I tried file compare to see what exactly the patch is changing for that particular program but it works only if the file size are same. So got any suggestions?

2)I need a link for a debugger which works in WinXP & I also need a link to learn about manual decrypting!

if your filecompare tool doesn't work find another or code it yourself

Many scene groups tend to pack their cracked executables to reduce the size of the executable and to prevent newbies from ripping off their cracking method. File comparing a packed executable with a virgin one would obviously return unwanted results. I suggest you look at crackmes versus cracks done by other groups since you are as you say a complete newbie - this ensures there is always a tutorial to help you on the way.
